The desperate and disastrous endeavor ended only with the appearance of the Protectors. The ancient and mysterious alien species intervened in the battle and eventually forced a truce..

But the price of peace was high: billions of dead and a destroyed earth was the result of this devastating conflict.

The surviving humans were resettled on new worlds. Under the protection of the Protectors and their technological support, humanity developed within a few years into an interstellar civilization that spread across dozens of star systems.
